2022 BOUNDARY TRAINING FOR CLERGY
In our desire to empower educated, innovative, and ethical lay & clergy leaders for ministry, together with our UCC colleagues we have been in a process of revising Boundary Awareness Training.
Boundary Awareness Training is required of all Commissioned and Ordained pastors. Each pastor is required to complete eight (8) hours of Boundary Awareness Training every five years.
The 2022 Boundary Training schedule is as follows:
March 16
June 21
Sept 15
Register today for the March 16th Boundary Training. Registration for June and September coming soon. Please contact Michel Johnson at mjohnson@docpswr.org with any questions.
How Does It Work?
We have replaced the one-day, eight-hour training with a modular approach. A four (4) hour module on sexual ethics will remain a core module and is required of all Ordained and Commissioned Pastors for Standing. The Sexual Ethics Course now consists of an online portion and a face-to-face session. The online portion will be a two (2) hour module that will require you to have read the book, Sustaining Ministry; Foundations and Practices for Serving Faithfully. We will provide you with this text when you register. You will be required to submit reflection papers and participate in online dialogue based on this book. The Face-to-Face session will be a two (2) hour module that will be dialogical in nature and focus on some case study work.
*Note: You must have completed the 2-hour Sexual Ethics Course (Part A) before you will be allowed to participate in the Face-To-Face (Part B) session. Part A will ONLY be offered online.
The additional four (4) hours can be fulfilled by any combination of several new modules that have been developed to address all the areas of the Minister’s Code of Ethics. This modular training is intended to empower pastors to properly identify and address the many issues around boundaries they will engage in their calling.
Each day of Boundary Awareness Training costs $30.00. The cost covers any or all of the training provided that day Along with the online Sexual Ethics (Part A) Module.
2022 anti-racism TRAINING FOR CLERGY
At our 2018 Regional Assembly in Fullerton, CA, the Assembly approved resolution 2018-1 Anti-Racism Clergy Training. This calls for Pastors/Clergy to take the Anti-Racism Training as a requirement to maintain Standing within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Pacific Southwest Region. This training will cover Disciples understanding of racism, power analysis and next steps for the future.
This requirement went into effect beginning in 2020. However, those who completed Anti-Racism Training in 2018 and 2019 will be counted. This training must be renewed every 5 years.
LEVEL ONE:
First Steps Towards Pro-Reconciliation
An Anti-Racism Training
All sessions run 4-6 pm on Friday, and 9 am - 2:30 pm on Saturday.
2022 SCHEDULE:
January 21-22
April 22-23
July 29-30
October 28-29
This six hour online training is specifically for clergy and seminarians taking the Anti-Racism Training for the first time in the Pacific Southwest Region. Clergy renewing their Anti-Racism Training requirements are asked to sign up for the Level Two Anti-Racism Training below.
LEVEL TWO ANTI-RACISM TRAINING:
All sessions run 9 am - 4 pm.
2022 SCHEDULE:
February 26
June 25
August 27
November 12
Level 2 training is for clergy who have taken the Level 1 training in the Pacific Southwest Region and need to renew their Anti-Racism training requirements as established by the Committee on Ministry. Sandhya Jha and David Bell will provide both training and coaching for the social-historical analysis of racism.
Level 2 training will help participants hone their analysis of institutional racism and look at their own organizations' governing documents to dream of how those documents can be more intentionally anti-racist. Participants will need to bring with them their own church or nonprofit's governing documents (bylaws), since the majority of the day will be practical application of anti-racism analysis. Please note that a review of institutional racism will be included at the beginning of the training, so it's okay if it's been a while since you covered that part of the content.
