"He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"  - Micah 6:8

"You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot. You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven."  - Matthew 5:13-16

Disciples from all across the Pacific Southwest Region will unite to worship God together around the theme of “Courage.”  As you know, this is a time when we need courage. We need courage to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with our God.  We need courage to be the salt of the earth - to live distinctive lives. We need courage to be the light of the world - to let God’s light shine through us to brighten a world that is too often filled with darkness.

Our 2019 Regional Gathering worship will be engaging and dynamic. We are fortunate to live in a region with much diversity. Therefore, we will strive to weave the differing gifts that our congregations bring into a rich tapestry of worship. We will praise God in multiple languages, use all of our senses, and sing joyfully through various styles of music. We hope that worshiping together as one body will help you to more fully connect with God!

Special Offerings

Of course, worship must do more than just connect us with God and each other, it must also lead us to work for God’s Reign on earth. Therefore, we will also have a chance to give financially to support the pursuit of peace, love, and justice in our world through two special offerings.

During Friday afternoon’s service, we will hear from some PSWR Disciples who have been involved in the important work of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival. You may remember that the 2017 General Assembly overwhelmingly passed a Sense-of-the-Assembly Resolution (GA 1740) calling on all expressions of the church to support the Poor People’s Campaign. This will give us the opportunity to support economic justice efforts, while also learning about how our congregations can get more involved.

During Saturday afternoon’s service, we will be encouraged to support the important work of Week of Compassion.  We know that there are those who are suffering because of recent natural disasters. People’s lives have been upended for a number of reasons, from our own California fires to Hurricane Florence. Week of Compassion’s Executive Director, Vy Nguyen will be with us to talk about the import work that our Disciples relief organization is doing.

We look forward to seeing you at the Regional Gathering and hope that worship will be a meaningful way for you to connect more deeply with God and with your siblings in Christ from the PSWR!
