Co- Regional Ministers

We welcome Don Dewey and Susan Gonzales Dewey as the Co-Regional Minsters of the Pacific Southwest Region! Their official installation wias Saturday October 20,2007 at the PSW Regional Gathering, Church of the Valley, Van Nuys..

Welcome to the website of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of the Pacific Southwest Region.  We are a diverse church in a diverse part of the world seeking to become an anti-racist church.  We are a growing church that continues to seek new ways in which we can share the love of Christ by developing new congregations; increase the effectiveness of our ministries; invite all God’s people to become participants in the Gospel.   It is in this way that we seek to affirm the mission of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ): “To be and to share the good news of Jesus Christ, witnessing, loving and serving from our doorsteps to the ends of the Earth.”

We celebrate the Lord’s Supper weekly and welcome all to the table of Christ.  We do not limit ministry to the ordained.  We affirm the priesthood of all believers.  We have a passion for the unity of the church, a heart for justice.  And, although we practice baptism by immersion, we recognize other forms of baptism.

Because we are a covenantal Church, lines of authority are very difficult to identify in an organizational chart.  Ultimately the local congregations carry the authority in this region.  They have it by vote at Regional Assemblies, which inform the Regional Board and all other entities, individuals and groups below the board in the above chart.

As a church in covenant with each other, we are called upon to recognize the rights and privileges of all persons as children of God.  This means that we attempt to make all decisions with respect and regard for all people impacted so their best interest is being met as effectively as possible.  As a church in covenant, this means we attempt to do this by discerning the will of God in all matters.

Being a church in a land which has and needs governmental authority creates an additional dynamic to these relationships.  There are certain legal matters which require accountability, e.g. Licensing and "Standing" of ministers.  In such matters, lines of authority rest in the person or group over which the Regional Board has direct authority.
