PRO-RECONCILIATION/ANTI-RACISM
Responsible for enabling the Pacific
Southwest
Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in becoming more
transforming,
anti-racist, inter-generational community of Christians:where brothers
and sisters of all races, cultures and languages share fully in the
leadership
of the region; where regular evaluations and analysis are made;where
active
efforts are undertaken to attack the sin of racism within our
communities
and partnerships;where the biblical and spiritual mandates of
inclusiveness
drive our actions; and where all have a place at the table and
none
shall be turned away.

CAMPS AND
CONFERENCES
Responsible for the Regional Summer
camp
programs and other youth ministries conducted throughout the
year.
These include, but are not limited to; Feb-Camp (weekend event for high
school youth in February,) JanBoree (weekend event for Jr. High in
January,)
Spring Fling (spring youth event,) Unity walk youth, Regional Assembly
youth, Youth Leadership Team.

EDUCATION
Responsible for: children’s
ministries
(other than camp), leadership education/training at Regional Assemblies
and other gatherings around the region.

Responsible for assisting regional

local congregations in developing an awareness of justice issues in
which
the church needs to be concerned. The committee is also
responsible
for: Unity Walk, recommendations for the distribution of Reconciliation
funds, Camile funds, and mission trips to Third World Countries.

COMMITTEE ON
MINISTRY
Responsible for the oversight and
care
of Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) ministers. This
includes,
but is not limited to, recommendations for ordination and licensed
ministry;
continuing education; and, evaluation of ministerial standing.

COMMUNICATIONS
Responsible for the publications of
the
region. In addition, the committee oversees program booklets and
promotion of major events in the region. The committee makes resources
for contemporary communication methods available through the regional
church
office.

& INTERFAITH
RELATIONS
This committee helps the local and
regional
church understand its relationship with other churches, both
denominational
and “non-denominational,” and other religions, as opportunities are
available.
These opportunities include, but are not limited to, World Day of
Prayer,
financial and prayer support of campus ministries, Religious Leaders of
Los Angeles County, and Churches Uniting in Christ, to name a few.

Society Committee of the Region. Committed to transformation through

community.

Seeks to provide training to enable
the
needs of older adults to be met in new ways. This includes, but
is
not limited to, sponsoring workshops about how to minister to older
adults
effectively, how local congregations can help develop affordable
housing
for Sr. Citizens, and more.

OUTDOOR
MINISTRIES
Keeping conference centers in
condition
to receive visitors is a major responsibility accepted by the members
of
this committee. They direct oversight of Loch Leven Christian
Conference
Center, a 160-acre conference center located in the San Bernardino
Mountains,
east of Mentone. In addition, they work with the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ) Hispanic Convencion who maintains and
administrates
the use of Bethany Pines Camp Ground, 310/327-5489, a semi-rustic
conference
center west of Frazier Park, CA. Both have proven to be marvelous
facilities for church and other retreat/camp settings.

PERMANENT FUNDS
Oversees the management of the
permanent
funds of the Regional Church. The interest drawn from these funds
enables new church starts, camp scholarships and more.

PERSONNEL
Responsible for the hiring and
evaluation
of Regional Church employees. In addition they make
recommendations
to the Regions Board of Directors regarding the descriptions of
ministries
undertaken by employed regional staff.

TRANSFORMATION
Developed to share responsibility of
the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) commitment to revitalize
1,000
existing Disciples congregations by the year 2020. In keeping with
Church
Extension's New Church Development mantra. "We will revitalize a
thousand
churches a thousand different ways." Under consideration will be
that a congregation will enter into a five-year evaluation and ministry
plan with the region.
